What are your talking about? Why is everything about who is better and who is not? For me, and many people, what is better comes down to what we like. Is Whitney Houston "better" than Barbara Streisand? Does she just blow Teena Marie marie away? How about some of these UK singers like Lisa Stansfield, or young artists like Adele and Amy Winehouse (who shares many personal simularities with Whitney)? I certainly do not think that any of these artists are like totally beneath Whitney.

Whitney can blow!!! She damn near made a hit out of the Star Spangled Banner, but I can name fifty African American Singers that, I appreciate more -- not to say that they are better.
If you want to compare white vocalists to a sista, you may wish to present some ammunition like Rachelle Ferrell, Patti Labelle, or Chaka Khan; then, you would have an argument.

Read the post--it's a matter of taste. There are no black Pavarottis (tho black female opera singers cannot be "f"-ed with), Hank Williams and Townes Van Zandt have no blk equivalents in c/w music, and once you leave the U.S. there are 1,000s of indigenous musics that have no blk folk performing them. You don't want to make your narrow band of interests the world as Klansmen do--those morons can't see past what they like in life, thinking: anything outside my interests is inferior. Wise up!

Love this song and anything Curtis Mayfield did. This is the first song I heard by Eva Cassidy which led me to collect all of her recordings. Eva departed this world way too soon, but the body of work that remains is absolutely amazing. Check her out, she's all over youtube.
