From studying ... ( 1 year ago by swanfightsarefun)
From studying Ballard I would suggest this period of Ballard's fiction was heavily influenced by the premature death of his wife. Though as critics we should never really discuss authorial intension; I believe that this period was in a way Ballard trying to come to terms with this massive personal tragedy. He is trying undermine reason in hope of escaping the burden's of reality. That is why it may appear as alden21 describes 'an absolute piece of crap'.

I'd guess this is actually a commentary on the original short story 'Crash!' from 'The Atrocity Exhibition' (which would explain the exclamation mark).

Glenn Danzig wrote a song called "Kiss of Steel" while in the band Samhain. It's kind of a horror-punk tribute to Ballard...cool stuff

Danzig's a fucking dwarf-like shithead. How fucking dare you utter that cunt's name in The Temple of Ballard.
No need to explain ... ( 7 months ago by MidoriNoSaru)
No need to explain this away as being the result of a temporary state of mind he was in - it all makes sense to me. I think it is the essential truth behind his observations that makes this so disturbing to many people, and may make some people want to dismiss it as "crap."
Thanks for posting this, and I would love to find a transcript of this.

No. Danzig's a dung puncher. That's probably why you're still feeling a little raw in your special area. I hope he calls you as I'd hate to think that it was only a fling.

I think to completely preclude critics from discussing authorial intention is ridiculous. It is perhaps, even more ridiculous of you to state that you believe in such a preclusion - whilst you offer no explanation as to why, or under who's influence, you arrived at such a belief - as a preliminary ramble before you discuss authorial intension.
I also think you're ... ( 4 months ago by rastabus)
I also think you're very much mistaken if you believe, either that Ballard's attitudes to reason and reality have since made some sort of about turn, or that anything Ballard has been involved in appears "as alden21 describes 'an absolute piece of crap'."

When he wrote the novel for "Crash!" in 1971, one pulisher rejected the manuscript with a note reading: "This author is beyond psychiatric help. Do Not Publish!"
I believe there's a fair reason. Doesn't this confirm it all the further. Though I find the works of his mind at times fascinating, as well as disturbing.
He does damn well have some insights.

This programme is fucking brilliant. J. G. is a fascinating entity. He just explores his and humanity's collective dark-side in the healthy, Jungian manner and with great wit, too.
Brilliant, ... ( 1 month ago by spurtfather)
Brilliant, especially the last two minutes when he really gets to the core of the matter. Love that whole 70's BBC style, stagger slow-mo and radiophonic workshop sound effects. Real fucking telly, not reality fucking T.V.

Like 'rastabus' said, its just a work of art, it doesn't necessarily reflect the state of the author's mental health.

What I like about this clip is that it makes good use of horrible, primitive eletronic music. Very unsettling stuff.
